 Dear families

Welcome to the 2025 year! We are delighted to meet our new students, and to see the happy faces of those returning. 

Our vision for A Future Without Limits kicked off with our promise not to make the most of every minute of your child's opportunity to enjoy and grow at Malibu. For those following us on Facebook, you may have seen our post showing the first hour and a half of the first day back at school. Certainly, a fabulous energy and so good to see so much engagement. 

We have welcomed a number of new teachers to Malibu this year and a full complement of staff. With great pleasure, we welcomed Sarah Uttley, Sarah Roberts, Ed Warrren and Lisa Oswick from the UK, Lisa McMahon from Cannington Community ESC, Cassie Cugley from Leda ESC and Michael MacRae who has come from Fitzroy Crossing with an Ed Support background. We were delighted to see the return of Frank Jekey-Green, Ladawan Lane and Rachel Kinsey, each who joined us last year. I am also very pleased to advise and welcome our new Junior Deputy Kirstee Birch, who has a wealth of Ed Support experience in her previous role at Endeavour Primary School Education Support. I know each of them look forward to working with their respective students and families. 

Our teachers will have been in touch to introduce themselves and we look forward to seeing you for our upcoming IEP meetings which will be held next Wednesday between 3pm and 8.30pm. Please register your preferred time using the link below and let your teacher know if you are unable to make any of those times to arrange another date. Our programs and student goals are individually tailored, so your input in discussing your child's learning needs are essential!

This is the start of my 5th year at Malibu School, in a role I have cherished and very dearly loved. The privilege to work aside such passionate and committed educators who are so dedicated to the success of each of our brilliant students has been humbling, so it is with a very heavy heart, that I advise that I will be taking leave to pursue another area of great passion. As of March 10th (week 6), I will be joining the Real Schools team which will still allow me to follow my passion in supporting schools to build inclusive and positive school cultures through a focus on Restorative Practices.

While I look forward to my new role, I remain committed to our Malibu family for the next month, and to preparing for the arrival of a new principal, with the least disruption possible. I will continue to work alongside our staff, our school leaders and members of our School Board and am grateful and pleased to advise that Heather Stephens will be stepping into the role to the end of the term, drawing on her 14 years as a past principal, to ensure stability and consistency until a new principal is appointed. The position is currently advertised and it is planned for the position process to be completed by the end of the term. 

Over the next few weeks, I aim to savour and share some great moments with the staff, students and family members of our Malibu community and look forward to a wonderful week 5 Junior and Middle assembly and whole-school family Meet and Greet on Friday 7th March on my last day as Malibu's principal. I hope to see you there if not before.

Change of School Times

As communicated last year, the school times have been pushed forward by 5 minutes. Just in case you missed the communications, please see our new times below. 

School times

8.50am – buses arrive / transition to class (all staff not on DOTT to support)

9.05am – Session 1

9.35 – Session 2

10.25am – eat / personal care

Recess outdoor break 10.55 – 11.15

11.15 – Session 3

12.00 – Session 4

12.45 – 1.15 eat / personal care

Lunch outdoor break 1.15 – 1.45

1.45 pm Session 5

2.35pm pack up, toilet, transitioning

2.45pm move to bus

2.50pm Bus arrives

Please note that our EAs are contracted to 3pm and EA supervision of students beyond that time requires staff to work additional unpaid time, or miss their planned activities with their own children and family. Your prompt assistance to collect your child is very much appreciated.
