Principal's Pen

Hello everyone!
I’m delighted to join the Malibu School community as Principal while Merrilee is on leave, and I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
For the past 24 years, I’ve worked in inclusive education across the UK, New Zealand, and Australia, teaching students of all ages and abilities. Before moving to Western Australia, I was a specialist school principal in Victoria. More recently, I’ve held leadership roles at SSEN: Disability and am currently Deputy Principal at Kalamunda Secondary Education Support Centre.
I enjoy creating welcoming, inclusive, and happy educational experiences. Over the years, I’ve learned that kindness, openness, and valuing all perspectives help us achieve the best outcomes for young people.
I look forward to getting to know the students, families, staff, and the broader Malibu School community, and I am excited to start working together soon. See you in Term 2!
Seth Willingham

This year we saw the digital platform of Square out-number the paper tickets and we will continue to use this option in the future.
The P&C are looking forward to welcoming the new Principal Seth Willingham to Malibu School and to working closely with him to establish the needs and goals of the school and our children.

Changes to Therapy provider requirements
Changes to Therapy provider requirements have been made by the Insurance Commission of WA, and we want to let you know how this might affect your child’s therapy at school.
Effective immediately, all therapists must have "public liability insurance cover of not less than $20 million for any one occurrence, with unlimited coverage in the aggregate." The Insurance Commission of WA has confirmed that multiple insurance providers can offer policies meeting these requirements. This change affects all schools.
To ensure your child continues to access the support of your preferred therapist at school, we are reviewing all therapy access requests submitted for the 2025 school year, to ensure they comply with the new standards. If your child's therapist’s application does not meet the updated requirements, we will send you and your therapist, an email notification. Access to therapy on the school site will be paused until your therapist provides an updated copy of their public liability insurance policy to the school.
Thank you for your understanding and support during this transition time.
Little Stars Playgroup Plus
Little Stars Playgroup Plus
Hey there, parents! Do you have little ones between the ages of 0 and 5? If you're looking for a fun and engaging playgroup, we’d be thrilled to have you join us in the Kindy room at Malibu School! We meet every Wednesday during the school term from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. It’s a wonderful way to help your child build social skills while connecting with other families in the community. Check out the fun we had this week to see if our playgroup feels like the right fit for you and your little one!
This week was absolutely packed with fun, creativity, and lots of laughter! We kicked things off with a truly quacking good time in our craft corner. The kids had a blast getting messy while making their very own Handprint Duck! We traced around their hands and glued on paper to create the cutest little ducks. Then, we splashed into crafting a Duck in a Pond, using paper, chalk, and glue to bring a beautiful pond scene to life.
The sensory play zone was a huge hit! The kids had a fantastic time playing with shredded paper, discovering plastic farm animals hidden inside. They also enjoyed squishing, rolling, and shaping playdough with farm animal cutters, rolling pins, and even playdough hammers. The giggles just kept coming as they created their own little farmyard masterpieces!
For some energetic fun, our little ones bounced to their heart's content on the mini trampoline, hopped around with adorable farm animal toys, and explored the kitchen toys, pretending to be chefs and bakers. It was a whirlwind of excitement and imagination!
And of course, no playgroup would be complete without dancing! Everyone joined in for a lively dance party, with bubbles floating all around. The kids twirled and spun with colourful pom poms, filling the room with joy and laughter. What a fantastic morning full of fun, learning, and unforgettable memories!

Middle 6
Exciting Start to the Year in M6
As the new school year begins, the students have been busy settling into our new class with lots of exciting activities and new experiences! We’ve been getting to know each other, making new friends, and building a strong classroom community. With the support of our new teacher Sarah, we’ve quickly learned that this year will be full of fun, learning, and growth.
One of the first things we did was learn all about our new teacher and where they come from. Our teacher comes from the beautiful country of Wales, in the United Kingdom. We learned about the rich culture, history, and stunning landscapes of Wales, including the famous Welsh castles and beautiful coastline. It was exciting to discover all the unique aspects of our teacher’s hometown and country!
We also had a fantastic time celebrating our school’s Multicultural Day, where our class learned all about Italy. We explored the Italian language, culture, and history, and even made some traditional Italian food! The highlight of the day was preparing and cooking spaghetti bolognese together. We were able to get hands-on in the kitchen and learn some new cooking skills while making a delicious meal. To make the day even more special, we also took part in a traditional Italian dance! It was so much fun learning the steps and sharing in the joy of Italian culture as a class.
The students have been working hard all term. We have been learning about 'trust' and 'keeping safe'. This week we have been busy making Easter crafts. Yesterday we had fun finger painting our Easter egg cards. We are all super excited for the school holidays!!
We’re off to a great start, and it’s only the beginning of what promises to be an exciting year ahead. We look forward to more adventures, new lessons, and unforgettable experiences. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to learn and grow together!

Senior 4
As part of their ASDAN Out in the Community Program, students from Senior Room 4 had previously planned the visit to the Rockingham Foreshore. The planning included where to go, how to get there, who to sit next to, what time would we get there and return, what bus route, and what we would do when we do when we arrived there?
During the community excursion all students were a credit to their school and were extremely respectful when encountering the public.
After walking along the foreshore, we had a BBQ lunch on the grassed area overlooking the ocean, students were also treated to hot chips.
It was a very successful trip.
Room 4 are now working and looking forward to their next outing in term two.

Science
The students have had a blast learning about space. Some of our students have experienced feeling different wooden shapes of the sun, moon, stars, rainbows, clouds, raindrops and lightning. Students have learnt some songs and dances connected to going to Outer Space to see what is out there. They have also learnt some AUSLAN signs for sun, moon, stars and rocket ships that go zoom zoom zoom. We are learning about how weather can affect us as well as plants and animals and we looked at how the Noongar Seasons show us what is happening around us. The senior students have been busy in their ASDAN course about the Environment and learning how we can look after it. They have been very industrious this term tidying areas in the school and sorting all the containers Malibu School collects. We have gone to the Containers for Change Depot and delivered our school’s collection of cans. The money we make from collecting containers is going towards the school camp. We made $85.00 dollars this term Yahoo! Lisa
