Term 2 is flying by, and I'm enjoying my time at Malibu School. Our students are an absolute delight, and one of the best parts of my day is getting to greet them, and many of you, during morning drop-offs and afternoon pickups.
I also want to give a big shout-out to our fantastic staff. Supporting the diverse needs, strengths, and personalities of nearly 110 students each day is no small job, and I'm proud of the care and commitment our team brings to their work.
This Friday, our whole school team will be heading to a professional learning conference in Perth that's very relevant to our work. Dr Ross Greene will present Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), an approach to help us better understand and respond to behaviours that might show a student feeling distressed or having unmet needs. The Kidd Clinic team will also run sessions encouraging us to reflect on how we can keep improving our approaches to inclusive education for students with disability and neurodivergence.
Notably, the conference includes speakers with lived experience of disability and neurodivergence, which means we'll be learning directly from people with valuable perspectives to share.
There's a growing shift in how disability is understood, more as something shaped by social attitudes and barriers around the disabled person rather than something 'in' the person (the Medical Model). I see myself as a fellow learner on this journey, often rethinking what I thought I knew. I hope the conference helps spark the same kind of reflection across our team as we keep learning and growing together to support the young people we're lucky to work with.
This is a final quick reminder that students are not at school on Friday, 30 May (Staff Development Day), or Monday, 2 June (Western Australia Day).

Changes to Therapy provider requirements
Changes to Therapy provider requirements have been made by the Insurance Commission of WA, and we want to let you know how this might affect your child’s therapy at school.
Effective immediately, all therapists must have "public liability insurance cover of not less than $20 million for any one occurrence, with unlimited coverage in the aggregate." The Insurance Commission of WA has confirmed that multiple insurance providers can offer policies meeting these requirements. This change affects all schools.
To ensure your child continues to access the support of your preferred therapist at school, we are reviewing all therapy access requests submitted for the 2025 school year, to ensure they comply with the new standards. If your child's therapist’s application does not meet the updated requirements, we will send you and your therapist, an email notification. Access to therapy on the school site will be paused until your therapist provides an updated copy of their public liability insurance policy to the school.
Thank you for your understanding and support during this transition time.
Little Stars Playgroup Plus
Little Stars Playgroup Plus
Hey there, parents! Do you have little ones between the ages of 0 and 5? If you're looking for a fun and engaging playgroup, we’d be thrilled to have you join us in the Kindy room at Malibu School! We meet every Wednesday during the school term from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. It’s a wonderful way to help your child build social skills while connecting with other families in the community. Check out the fun we had this week to see if our playgroup feels like the right fit for you and your little one!
This week was absolutely packed with fun, creativity, and lots of laughter! We kicked things off with a truly quacking good time in our craft corner. The kids had a blast getting messy while making their very own Handprint Duck! We traced around their hands and glued on paper to create the cutest little ducks. Then, we splashed into crafting a Duck in a Pond, using paper, chalk, and glue to bring a beautiful pond scene to life.
The sensory play zone was a huge hit! The kids had a fantastic time playing with shredded paper, discovering plastic farm animals hidden inside. They also enjoyed squishing, rolling, and shaping playdough with farm animal cutters, rolling pins, and even playdough hammers. The giggles just kept coming as they created their own little farmyard masterpieces!
For some energetic fun, our little ones bounced to their heart's content on the mini trampoline, hopped around with adorable farm animal toys, and explored the kitchen toys, pretending to be chefs and bakers. It was a whirlwind of excitement and imagination!
And of course, no playgroup would be complete without dancing! Everyone joined in for a lively dance party, with bubbles floating all around. The kids twirled and spun with colourful pom poms, filling the room with joy and laughter. What a fantastic morning full of fun, learning, and unforgettable memories!
If you’d like to know more, please feel free to visit https://www.malibuschool.wa.edu.au/little-stars-playgroup-plus. We can’t wait to welcome you and your little star!
Library
We are excited to share some wonderful updates from our Malibu school library.
Over the past few months, we have been hard at work expanding our reading collection and resources to ensure that our students have access to a wide variety of books and materials to support their learning and growth. Some of the new resources include puzzles, games, Lego, sensory sorting and storytelling lapboards to name a few lapboards to name a few.
Last week we participated in in the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), an event that celebrates reading by having children across Australia enjoy the same book at the same time. This year we were part of the 2,204,658 registered participants across 16,632 locations. How amazing is that!

Middle 1
A Fantastic Start to Term 2!
Middle 1 has had an exciting and positive start to Term 2! We've welcomed a new teacher, Christine, to our classroom while our regular teacher, Dee, steps into the role of Deputy Principal for the Middle Cluster. The students have adapted beautifully and are thriving in their new routine.
This term, we've launched a new Physical Education program that has quickly become a highlight of the week. Students rotate through a variety of sport stations, building skills in running, jumping, balancing, kicking, and throwing. It's been wonderful to see everyone challenge themselves and support one another.
Fridays have become extra fun with the introduction of Malibu Clubs! Each student selected a club based on their interests, choosing from Movie, Disco, Art, Soccer, Sensory Play, or Self-Care. These sessions offer a great opportunity to unwind and connect with peers in a relaxed, engaging environment.
In HASS, our focus has been on Medieval Europe, with students exploring the fascinating world of Ancient Roman Emperors and learning about historical social structures. It's been an enriching journey into the past!
In Health, we've been exploring the themes of feelings and relationships—learning how to check in with others, identify emotions, and communicate with care and empathy.
A big well done to all the students for embracing Term 2 with such enthusiasm and positivity. Keep up the great work—there’s so much more to look forward to!
Dee, Melissa, Charmayne, Gemma, Megan and Christine.

Senior 3
It has been a great start to term two in S3. Pupils have been very enthusiastic and engaged in their learning – continuing their success from term one.
In maths, students have been focusing on place value, addition and counting in 2s, 3s and 4s. We have been using concrete resources like base 10 and Numicon to reinforce new concepts and provide students with a hands-on approach. In HASS, students have learnt about biomes, land use and farming as they begin their first geography topic of the year. Our Enterprise project is well underway. Students have begun to plan their market day product (Christmas cards), while learning broader concepts of industry and business. In Health, students have been reinforcing their understanding of protective behaviours.
Students have begun to attend Malibu Clubs on Friday, tailored to their interests. Our new PE rotation is well underway, and pupils have enjoyed access to a wider range of activities on Thursday afternoons. S3 also attended their first excursion of the year, when we attended ‘Try a Sport Day’ at Warnbro High last week. Children had a great time and accessed a range of sports with help from their amazing high school peers. They represented Malibu School very well and made all supporting adults very proud of their efforts.
A huge well done to all students and staff in S3 for their hard work and success so far this year!
Eddie, Kylie, Audrey, Hayley and Daniella.
